Under €80: the dinner cruises that really sail

An €80 ceiling rules out the two big houses at the Eiffel Tower and Alma straight away: their dinners start at €90 (the Bateaux Mouches 6 pm service) and €99 (the Bateaux Parisiens 6:15 pm service). What's left is a handful of boats, nearly all boarding in western Paris, in the 15th and 16th arrondissements.

On the companies' own websites, this is what comes in under the line: Paris en Scène at Javel Haut, Water (from €59) and Wine (from €72) formulas; Le Théo at Passy and its Trattoria en Seine at €69; Le Capitaine Fracasse at Javel Haut, Fracasse formula from €75, with no drinks at all. Add the "bistronomic" offers from the Paris Seine company, sold on the platforms and leaving from Solférino, and the Bistro Parisien combos, where you eat at the quay before or after a one-hour sightseeing cruise. Le Diamant Bleu sits right on the line: "from €79" on its homepage, €89 on its booking page.

The cards below show today's prices at our partners; they move with the date. For every restaurant boat, the expensive ones included, see our Seine river dinner cruise comparison.

Paris en Scène: Water, Wine or Champagne formula

This is the cheapest dinner that sails, and the most reviewed of all the dinner cruises at our partners. Paris en Scène boards at Port de Javel Haut, at the foot of the Pont Mirabeau near the RER station building (metro line 10 Javel-André Citroën, RER C Javel). Two departures every evening, 7:15 pm (back 9 pm) and 9:45 pm (back 11:30 pm), for 1h45 on the Seine, with the Eiffel Tower, the Pont Alexandre-III and Notre-Dame on the program. Arrive a quarter of an hour early.

The menu is the same for everyone: an amuse-bouche, a main served in a cocotte, a dessert, with a plant-based option. Only the drinks change the price. The Water formula (from €59) gives you 50 cl of mineral water each. The Wine formula (from €72) adds a 37.5 cl bottle for two, a generous glass each, for €13 more. The Champagne formula (from €85) swaps the wine for 37.5 cl of champagne for two. In our view, the Wine formula is the sweet spot.

Seating is decided by the floor manager; a paid option guarantees a premium spot. Children under 12 have a menu from €39. Free cancellation up to 24h before, except for groups and special dates. No regular dinner on 14 February, Bastille Day, 24 or 31 December.

Trattoria en Seine: Le Théo's Italian dinner

On Le Théo, the Diamant Bleu company serves an Italian dinner at €69 per adult and €49 per child. The boat boards at Port de Passy, 2 rue du Ranelagh, opposite the Maison de la Radio (RER C to Avenue du Président-Kennedy, then follow the flags along the quay), Tuesday to Sunday at 6:30 pm (back 8:30 pm) and 9:15 pm (back 11:30 pm).

On the menu: a pizzetta to start, a choice of pasta — ravioli, ragù, truffle rigatoni — and a pistachio tiramisu. Only half a bottle of water for two is included; a Spritz costs €13 extra, the VIP table by the windows €10. The boat is small, 39 m long, with an indoor lounge and a 110 m² rooftop terrace: that terrace is its big asset in good weather. The music is Italian and recorded, there's no dress code, and cancellation is free up to 48h before.

The old "Pizza sur Seine" no longer exists: this trattoria replaced it. Our page on Le Théo and Le Diamant Bleu compares the company's two boats.

Bistro Parisien: dinner at the quay, then a one-hour cruise

Le Bistro Parisien belongs to Bateaux Parisiens. It's a glass-fronted restaurant with a terrace, sitting on pontoon 2 at Port de la Bourdonnais, facing the Eiffel Tower: it doesn't sail. The combos sold by the platforms pair a three-course bistro meal with the company's one-hour sightseeing cruise, which leaves from the same port.

The idea has two advantages. First the price, well below the company's dinner cruises. Then the flexibility: you eat on land, without a restaurant boat's fixed schedule, and the sightseeing cruise leaves often in the evening. The drawback is obvious: you don't dine on the water, and the cruise lasts an hour, with an audio guide rather than table service. The last price lists the company published for its own packages were in the region of €45; partner prices show below. Our Bistro Parisien review goes through the menu.

Capitaine Fracasse and Paris Seine: formulas without drinks

Le Capitaine Fracasse shares Port de Javel Haut with Paris en Scène. Its basic Fracasse formula, from €75, covers starter, main and dessert, but no drinks — and the company points out that there's no free drinking water on board. On the other hand, the cruise is long: 8 pm departure Sunday to Friday, back 10:15 pm, and two services on Saturday (6 pm and 8:45 pm). The route goes up as far as the Bibliothèque nationale de France, which few dinners do. No dress code, free cancellation up to 24h. The Amiral formula (from €89), with a bottle of wine for two, breaks the budget but stays reasonable.

The Paris Seine company, at Port de Solférino below the Musée d'Orsay, sells "bistronomic" dinners on the platforms, including an early-evening version. They are among the cheapest offers in our catalog. Read the details before you book: on the company's standard cruises, drinks are extra, with a glass of wine at €8 to €10. See our La Marina de Paris review.

Early service: earlier is often cheaper

At the big companies, the first sitting costs less than the second. Bateaux Mouches charges €90 for its 6 pm service, with a bottle of wine for two, against €99 for the 8:30 pm Découverte menu, where only water is served: the early one is both cheaper and better watered. At Bateaux Parisiens, the 6:15 pm Étoile costs €99 against €115 at 8:30 pm. Both dinners go over our ceiling, but they're the best way into the boats in the center of town.

Under €80 the effect is weaker: Paris en Scène charges the same at 7:15 pm and 9:45 pm, and so does Le Théo at 6:30 pm and 9:15 pm. There, the early service mostly changes the light. From April to September, a 6:30 pm or 7:15 pm departure happens in broad daylight; from November to February, night has already fallen; in October and March you leave around sunset. The table below gives sunset and the Eiffel Tower's first sparkle month by month. Our early service page compares every first sitting.

The table says it all: you give up an à la carte choice, included drinks and the prestige boarding point. You don't give up the river, the monuments or the time on board — 1h45 to 2h15 of sailing, longer than the big companies' 6 pm services. And the cancellation terms are better at the low end, which counts when the Paris weather can't make up its mind.

Two caveats. A set menu isn't necessarily a flaw: one well-made dish beats a long menu served on a production line. And a seat against the glass costs €10 to €15 on Le Théo or Le Diamant Bleu, far less than the tens of euros between two service levels at the big companies. If the view matters most, our window seat page explains how to guarantee one.

Paris dinner cruise price for two, and the lunch option

Work out the full bill for two. Paris en Scène Wine formula: €144 with the wine. Le Théo: €138, plus €26 if you each have a Spritz. Capitaine Fracasse: €150 before the first drink. The Bistro Parisien is still the lightest option, as long as you accept eating on land. Add the journey: Javel and Passy are both on the RER C, like the Eiffel Tower.

Lunch is the other way to save. Le Théo serves a Sunday Italian lunch from €59, La Marina a 12:30 pm lunch cruise from €69, Le Calife a "Paris Lunch" on Saturday and Sunday from €65, and Le Capitaine Fracasse a Sunday brunch from €52. The same monuments, in full daylight, for less than in the evening: see lunch and brunch cruises. At the other end of the scale, our luxury dinner cruise page explains what you pay for above €150.

What's the cheapest dinner cruise in Paris that actually sails?

Paris en Scène, Water formula, from €59 on the company's website, for a 1h45 cruise from Javel Haut. Restaurants at the quay, like the Bistro Parisien, can work out cheaper, but you don't eat on the water.

Are drinks included in a cheap dinner cruise?

Rarely. Paris en Scène Water and Le Théo serve water only, the Fracasse formula no drinks at all, and on the standard Paris Seine cruises everything is extra. Choose the Paris en Scène Wine formula if you want a glass included.

Do the cheap dinner cruises pass the Eiffel Tower?

Yes at Paris en Scène, which lists the Eiffel Tower, the Pont Alexandre-III and Notre-Dame, and at Le Capitaine Fracasse, whose route runs from Île aux Cygnes to the BnF past the tower. Javel and Passy are downstream of the tower: any boat heading up toward the center passes it.

Can I cancel?

Paris en Scène and Le Capitaine Fracasse cancel free of charge up to 24h before, Le Théo up to 48h. On the platforms, the terms depend on the offer and are shown before you pay.

How much is a dinner cruise for a child?

Paris en Scène has a kids' menu from €39 for under-12s, Le Théo a €49 menu (spaghetti, tiramisu, juice). At Bateaux Parisiens, the €40 child price exists only in Étoile.
