What Le Capitaine Fracasse sells
Le Capitaine Fracasse does not run one-hour sightseeing tours: it is a restaurant boat, and everything it sells comes with a meal. There are just two products. The dinner cruise sails every evening except four dates (Valentine's Day, the Bastille Day evening, December 24 and December 31, which have their own special menus), and the brunch cruise runs on Sunday lunchtime. The brand belongs to the Esprit Seine group, which also owns Paris en Scène, and the two boats share a pier. So they are not really rivals; think of them as two tiers. Paris en Scène is the shorter, cheaper option; Le Capitaine Fracasse is the longer version, with a route that goes much further east.
That, in our view, is what sets it apart. Most dinner cruises at this price loop around the islands and turn back. This one pushes on to the Bibliothèque nationale de France (the National Library), past Bercy, something only the long Bateaux Parisiens sittings do, at a much higher price. Otherwise it is a simple three-course menu, the feel of a floating restaurant dining room, and prices that stay under €100 as long as you skip the champagne package.
On our partner platforms you will find both the dinner and the brunch under the company's name. The brunch in particular is sold on Tiqets; the dinner on GetYourGuide and Headout.

Port de Javel Haut: where to board and how to get there
This is where most people go wrong. For years Le Capitaine Fracasse boarded on the Île aux Cygnes, under Pont de Bir-Hakeim, and plenty of websites, old tickets and map apps still put it there. Not anymore: the company now lists a single pier, Port de Javel Haut, between Pont Mirabeau and Pont de Grenelle in the 15th arrondissement. The quay is at the foot of Pont Mirabeau, near the RER station building. If your booking voucher still says Île aux Cygnes, trust the company's website and go to Javel.
The easiest way there is the RER C to Javel station, a short walk from the quay. By Métro, line 10 stops at Javel-André Citroën, the closest, as well as Charles Michels and Mirabeau. There are public parking garages nearby. Arrive 15 minutes early: Sunday to Friday, dinner boarding opens at 7:30 pm for an 8 pm departure, and brunch boarding starts at noon.
Watch out for the neighbor: this is the same pontoon as Paris en Scène. The group's two boats share the quay but not their schedules, so check the boat's name on your ticket before you step aboard. Port de Javel Haut is a long way from the big Eiffel Tower piers. That does not matter once you are on board, but allow for the journey if you are heading somewhere else afterward. Our Seine piers guide shows where this quay sits compared with the others.

The boat and the route to the National Library
The boat holds a maximum of 247 passengers. It is one big glass-walled dining room, not an intimate yacht: you sit at tables lined up along the windows, in a restaurant atmosphere rather than a private-party one. The company does not advertise any live music, so do not book it expecting a band or a singer; that is not what it offers.
The route is its best selling point. In the order the company gives: the Île aux Cygnes, the Eiffel Tower, the Musée du quai Branly, Pont de l'Alma, Pont Alexandre III, Place de la Concorde, the Musée d'Orsay, the Louvre, Pont des Arts, the Île de la Cité with the Pont Neuf, the Conciergerie and Notre-Dame, then Pont Charles-de-Gaulle, the Ministry of Finance at Bercy, Pont de Bercy, and finally the National Library. Because it starts from Javel, downstream of the Eiffel Tower, the boat heads upstream first and passes the Statue of Liberty on the Île aux Cygnes within the first few minutes.
A one-hour cruise from the Eiffel Tower never gets that far: it turns around near the Île Saint-Louis. Le Capitaine Fracasse therefore covers a stretch of the Seine that standard sightseeing cruises skip. If your priority is to see as much of Paris as possible over one meal, it is one of the most logical choices; exactly what you see from the water is covered on our what you see on a Seine river cruise page.
The dinner cruise: times, packages and prices
Sunday to Friday there is a single sitting: boarding at 7:30 pm, departure at 8 pm, back at 10:15 pm, so 2 hours 15 minutes on the water. On Saturdays there are two: an early departure at 6 pm (back at 7:45 pm, 1 hour 45 minutes) and a later one at 8:45 pm (back at 11 pm, 2 hours 15 minutes). Product listings say "about two hours"; the company's schedule page is the one to trust.
Three packages, at the starting prices shown on the company's website:
The menu is one starter, one main (fish or poultry) and one dessert, and it changes about every six months. According to resellers, vegetarian and vegan menus are available; ask when you book. Important: the Fracasse package includes no drinks at all, not even water. Our pick is the Amiral, because wine and water are included and the gap with the base package closes fast once you order on board. The Signature is only worth it if you really want the premium seat and the champagne.
On the platforms, the basic dinner usually shows at around €80; the cards above give the price for your date. Special dates (Christmas, Valentine's Day, New Year's Eve) have their own menus and much higher prices, around €365 for New Year's Eve according to the company. The Sunday brunch cruise
The brunch is the house's pleasant surprise, and the product we feature on this page. On Sundays, boarding is at noon, departure at 12:30 pm and return at 2:15 pm: a full 1 hour 45 minutes of actual sailing. That is rare. Many "Seine brunches" happen at the dock without ever leaving the pontoon — the Bateaux Mouches brunch, for one, does not sail. This boat does.
Brunch is plated: a plate of sweet and savory bites, the dessert of the day, a hot drink and a juice. The Champagne Brunch adds a glass of champagne. The company's website lists the brunch from €52 and the champagne version from €62; on Tiqets, the price for your date is on the card below. It is not an all-you-can-eat buffet, and that is the main caveat: big appetites will do better at a buffet, such as the pricier Diamant Bleu brunch covered on our small Seine operators page.

In daylight the route reads better than at dinner: the facades, the quays and the bridges of eastern Paris all the way to the National Library. It is a good idea for a winter Sunday, when a sightseeing cruise feels too short and a long, warm lunch is more tempting. The other lunches and brunches on the water are compared in our Seine lunch and brunch cruise guide.

Booking, cancelling, coming with kids
The company lets you change, postpone or cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before your sitting. That is one of the most flexible policies among Paris restaurant boats, on a par with Paris en Scène. If you book through a platform, the terms of that offer apply instead; they are shown before you pay and may differ.
No dress code: the company says so in black and white. You can turn up in jeans and sneakers, which is not the case at Bateaux Parisiens, where jeans are refused at dinner.
For children, there is a dedicated dinner menu (beef burger, dessert, mineral water), but the company does not publish its price: ask when you book. Children under 3 are free if they do not eat anything. For a family outing, the brunch, shorter and in daylight, seems a better fit to us than the 8 pm sitting that ends after 10 pm. More ideas for kids are in our family Seine cruise guide.

Paris: 3-Course Lunch Cruise on the River Seine

Who Le Capitaine Fracasse is for
It suits couples and groups of friends who want a proper sit-down meal, a long cruise and a budget of around €75 to €90 a head, with no dress code to worry about. It also suits anyone who has already done the one-hour cruise and wants to see eastern Paris, the National Library and Bercy from the water.
It suits you less if you want a lively evening with music and a dance floor, or if you want the Eiffel Tower sparkling mid-meal at a fixed time — no company times its departures to the sparkle — and travelers staying in the east of the city will find Pont Mirabeau a trek. For a more upscale evening, with a guaranteed window seat in the Privilège package and live music, the 8:30 pm dinner of Bateaux Parisiens remains the benchmark, at a very different price. All the dinners are compared on our Seine dinner cruise page, and every company on the Seine cruise operators page.

Verdict
3.9/ 5
In our view Le Capitaine Fracasse is one of the most honest dinner cruises in Paris: a real meal, a long cruise that goes past Bercy, flexible cancellation and no dress code. It does not try to be a party boat or a luxury one. Take the Amiral package at dinner, or the Sunday brunch if you want the Seine in daylight with a sit-down lunch. And make sure you go to Port de Javel Haut.
Where does Le Capitaine Fracasse leave from?
From Port de Javel Haut, at the foot of Pont Mirabeau in the 15th arrondissement, near the RER C Javel station. It no longer boards on the Île aux Cygnes, even though some old pages still say so.
How much is the dinner cruise?
On the company's website, from €75 for the Fracasse package without drinks, from €89 for the Amiral with wine and water, and from €119 for the Signature with champagne. Platform prices for your date are on the cards on this page.
Does the Capitaine Fracasse brunch actually sail?
Yes. It leaves on Sundays at 12:30 pm and returns at 2:15 pm, from €52 on the company's website (€62 with champagne). You can also book it on Tiqets.
Is there a dress code?
No, the company says there is no specific dress code on board.
Can I cancel?
On the company's website, you can change or cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before. On a platform, the terms of the offer apply; they are shown before you pay.
How is it different from Paris en Scène?
Same group and same pier. Paris en Scène is shorter (1 hour 45 minutes) and cheaper, with two sittings at 7:15 pm and 9:45 pm; Le Capitaine Fracasse sails for 2 hours 15 minutes and goes as far as the National Library.
Do children pay?
There is a children's menu at dinner, but the company does not publish its price. Children under 3 are free if they do not eat anything.
