Who is behind the brand

Paris en Scène is a brand of the Esprit Seine group. The company that actually runs the boat is called Vedettes de la Seine, with its head office in Boulogne-Billancourt. The same group owns Le Capitaine Fracasse, the other dinner cruise that boards at exactly the same pontoon, as well as event boats that turn up on some special evenings.

Worth knowing before you compare: Paris en Scène and Le Capitaine Fracasse are not two rivals but two products from the same house, with two price lists and two different durations. Paris en Scène is the shorter, price-focused version; Fracasse is the longer one.

The positioning is deliberate. Among the official prices we recorded across every dinner cruise company in Paris, this is the lowest entry price, under €60. On GetYourGuide the dinner listing has thousands of reviews, which makes it one of the most booked dinner cruises in Paris. Our cheap Seine dinner cruise page sets it against the other options under €70.

One product: dinner, in two sittings

There is no lunch, no brunch and no narrated sightseeing cruise here: only dinner, every evening of the week, in two sittings. The first boards at 7 pm and leaves at 7:15 pm, back around 9 pm; the second boards at 9:30 pm, leaves at 9:45 pm and returns around 11:30 pm. Either way you are on the water for about 1h45. The company asks you to arrive a quarter of an hour before boarding.

  1. First sitting boardsarrive around 6:45 pm

  2. Departure1h45 on the water

  3. Back at the pontoonend of the first sitting

  4. Second sitting boardsarrive around 9:15 pm

  5. Departurethis one sails in the dark all year round

  6. Back at the pontoonkeep an eye on the last metro

The regular dinner does not run on Valentine's Day, on the Bastille Day evening, or on 24 and 31 December: on those nights the brand sells special cruises with four-course menus and much higher prices, sometimes on another of the group's boats. The holiday season is covered on our New Year's Eve and Christmas page.

In our view, your choice of sitting matters more than anything else. In summer, the 7:15 pm cruise leaves in broad daylight and comes back before dark; the 9:45 pm one is all city lights. In winter, both sail at night.

Port de Javel Haut: the pier and how to get there

The boat boards at Port de Javel Haut, between Pont Mirabeau and Pont de Grenelle in the 15th arrondissement, at the foot of Pont Mirabeau and near the RER station building. It is the same pontoon as Le Capitaine Fracasse, so check the boat's name on your confirmation before you head down to the quay.

To get there, the company points you to Métro line 10 (Javel-André Citroën, Charles Michels or Mirabeau stations) and the RER C (Javel station). There are public car parks nearby. Allow a good half hour on the metro from the historic center: the pier is downstream of the Eiffel Tower.

This out-of-the-way pier is the price you pay for the price: if you are staying near Bastille, factor in the trip home after 11:30 pm. Our Seine pier guide places this pontoon on the river line with all the others.

The boat and what you see

The boat carries the brand's name: a panoramic, glass-sided restaurant boat whose capacity the company does not publish. The maître d' decides where you sit when you arrive. If you want a table against the glass or at the front, the company sells a paid option for a guaranteed premium spot; without it, no particular seat is promised. Our guide to getting a window seat compares this option with what the other companies offer.

As for the route, the company names the Eiffel Tower, Pont Alexandre III and Notre-Dame. It does not say where the boat turns around, and we will not make it up.

For the Eiffel Tower lit up, here is the rule to know. The Eiffel Tower sparkles for five minutes at the start of every hour after dark, until at least 11 pm; on some evenings, especially in summer, it carries on later — check the tower's website for the day. No company times its cruises to the sparkle. The second sitting, on the water between 9:45 and 11:30 pm, simply has more chances to cross a full hour after dark. The details are on our Eiffel Tower sparkle page.

Paris en Scène menu and packages: water, wine or champagne

The menu comes in three parts: an amuse-bouche, a main course served in a cocotte, and dessert. A vegetable-based vegetarian dish is available. Special evenings move up to four courses. What changes from one package to the next is not the plate but the drinks.

The prices above come from the company's site and should be read as "from". One detail to notice: 37.5 cl is a half bottle for two, so about a glass and a half each.

In our view the wine package is the best balance: thirteen euros more than water so you have something to drink with your main. Even the champagne package stays under the €99 of the simplest option on the 6:15 pm sitting at Bateaux Parisiens, which spends less time on the water (1h15). What you will not get is the show of a big kitchen brigade: the cooking is simple, served efficiently, with no fine-dining ambitions. The company announces no live music and no dress code, so we promise neither.

Booking: official site, platforms and cancellation

You can book on the company's site or through our two partners that sell this dinner, GetYourGuide and Headout. The table below shows the price we recorded on each; it may be for a specific package and date, hence a possible gap with the official "from €59".

On the official site, cancellation is free up to 24 hours before the cruise, except for groups and special dates. Groups of twelve or more, and private hires, follow another rule: free up to 30 days before, 50 % between 29 and 15 days, the full amount in the last 14 days. A no-show on the night is charged in full. On the platforms, the conditions depend on the listing and are shown before you pay.

Two more practical rules: animals are not allowed on board, and an unaccompanied minor under 18 may be refused boarding.

Who it suits, and who it doesn't

Paris en Scène works very well as a first dinner cruise when budget matters: a couple who want to see the Seine at night over dinner, a group of friends who would rather pay for the boat than for the tablecloth, a family with children under 12 (the child price from €39 is one of the lowest on the river).

It suits three kinds of traveler less well. First, anyone who wants a real gourmet meal: the cooking is honest, not memorable. Second, anyone staying far east: the Javel pier adds a journey. Third, anyone looking for music: nothing is announced. For them, look at our pick of dinner cruises with live music.

Close alternatives? At the same pier, Le Capitaine Fracasse sails longer and offers a Sunday brunch. At a similar price, Le Théo and Le Diamant Bleu leave from Port de Passy, across the river: see our page on the smaller Seine cruise companies. More central, La Marina de Paris boards at the foot of the Musée d'Orsay, with drinks charged extra.
