A good night cruise comes down to a few things: leaving when it is really dark, having the Eiffel Tower in view on the hour, and choosing between commentary, atmosphere or a meal. This ranking compares the five evening options we recommend, sightseeing cruises and dinners together, with our reasons. For how evening departures work in general, the schedules season by season and what you see from the deck, read our Seine night cruise page. The ranking across every situation is on the best Seine river cruise.
How we judge an evening cruise
Five criteria, in this order. How dark it actually is when you leave: a 7 pm boat in July is a daytime cruise, whatever the listing's title says. The companies with the latest departures therefore score higher, especially from April to August. The Eiffel Tower on the hour: leaving from one of the tower's two pontoons, Bourdonnais or Suffren, gives you two chances to see it sparkle, on the way out and on the way back.
Commentary or atmosphere: at night, plenty of passengers would rather have a drink and some music than an audio guide, and that is a perfectly good choice. We rank both, without setting one against the other. Return time, next: a dinner that gets back at 11 pm or 11:30 pm shows you the lit-up city for far longer than a 6 pm sitting. And finally review volume on the partner platforms, as a safeguard: we do not put an offer at the top if too few passengers have rated it.
One rule runs through this whole ranking. The Eiffel Tower sparkles for five minutes at the start of every hour after dark, until at least 11 pm; on some evenings, especially in summer, it carries on later — check the tower's website for the day. No company promises that moment; a boat that leaves 20 to 25 minutes before the hour is still your best bet.
No. 1: the last departures from Bourdonnais
Bateaux Parisiens takes first place for a simple reason: it sails the latest. From April to September, the last departure is at 10:30 pm, and at 11 pm on weekends and every evening in July and August. From October to March, it is at 10 pm, or 10:30 pm on weekends and during school vacations. In June, when twilight only ends around 10:40 pm, it is one of the few sightseeing cruises that run in complete darkness.
The rest follows: departure and return at pontoon 3 of Port de la Bourdonnais, upstream of Pont d'Iéna; up to Île Saint-Louis, turn around, back past the Louvre and the Palais de Chaillot; an audio guide in about 14 languages. The evening fare is the daytime fare, €18 online, and the open-dated ticket stays valid for a year: if the sky is overcast that night, you go another evening.
What we hold against it: the upper deck fills up quickly on the last summer departures, and the bag check slows down boarding. Arrive a quarter of an hour early and head straight upstairs. For the company's other options, see our Bateaux Parisiens review.

Paris: Gourmet Dinner Cruise on Seine River with Live Music
4.5 (3,279)from €71
No. 2: the music-and-drinks cruise at Port de Suffren
Just downstream of Pont d'Iéna, Vedettes de Paris swaps its guided cruise in the evening for the Apéro & Musicale cruise: one hour, no guide, French songs in the background, and drinks you can order on board. It is the evening cruise with the most reviews in our catalog, and we understand why: it is the most relaxed, the one where people talk instead of wearing headphones. From €22 on the company's website (€25 at the window), €32 with wine or beer, €38 with champagne.
It sails every evening, roughly from 7 pm to 10:30 pm, later in high season. It loses points in June and July, when its first departures are still in broad daylight: aim for the last ones. A timed ticket bought online can be canceled or moved for free up to 24 hours before, a real plus when the weather cannot make up its mind.
Cruises that include a glass are compared on Seine champagne cruise.

No. 3: the Bateaux Parisiens 8:30 pm dinner
For dinner after dark, our first choice is the Bateaux Parisiens 8:30 pm sitting, at Port de la Bourdonnais: check-in at 8 pm, back at 11 pm, so 2h30 on the water, the longest evening among the big dinners. The loop runs from the Bibliothèque nationale to the Statue of Liberty. From October to February, night has fallen before you even board; in September, the meal starts at dusk and ends in full darkness, which in our opinion is the best of both worlds. Live music accompanies the dinner.
The Étoile menu starts at €115 on the company's website, wine included. To see the lit monuments from your table, a window seat is guaranteed only with Privilège or Premier Baie Vitrée. Jeans, sneakers, flip-flops and bermudas are not allowed, and the booking cannot be canceled. Even so, with its consistently high ratings, it remains the benchmark dinner.
Keep the counter-example in mind: the same company's 6:15 pm sitting lasts 1h15 and is back at 7:30 pm. It only takes place after dark in the depths of winter, from November to January. The platform comparison below is for this dinner; table placement is explained on getting a window seat.

No. 4: Paris en Scène, the latest sitting
At Port de Javel Haut, at the foot of Pont Mirabeau, Paris en Scène serves two 1h45 dinners: 7:15 pm and 9:45 pm. The second, boarding at 9:30 pm and back at 11:30 pm, is the dinner that ends latest in our selection. From September to April it takes place entirely after dark; even in June, the second half is in darkness. The route passes the Eiffel Tower, Pont Alexandre III and Notre-Dame.
It is also the best value for a dinner at night: from €59 with water, €72 with wine, €85 with champagne on the company's website, and thousands of reviews on our main platform. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before, and a paid option guarantees a premium seat.
Bear in mind that the pier is a long way from the Eiffel Tower: Métro line 10 to Javel–André Citroën or RER C to Javel. Our Paris en Scène review goes through the packages.
No. 5: Bateaux Mouches, the night on a big scale
At Pont de l'Alma, on the right bank, Bateaux Mouches completes the ranking. Its evening sightseeing cruise runs on the biggest boats in Paris, with very wide open upper decks: for photographing the lit quays without a window in the way, this is the best spot. From April to October, departures follow roughly every 30 minutes until 10 pm, with an extra 10:30 pm on Saturdays in October; from November to March, the last one leaves at 9:30 pm. From €17 online on the company's website.
Its 8:30 pm dinners, back around 10:45 pm, have a violinist, a pianist and a dance floor. Watch out for the €99 Découverte menu: it includes water only. The €170 Excellence menu gets you priority for a window seat, without a guarantee.
Two other night dinners deserve a mention off the podium. Le Diamant Bleu, at Port de Passy, leaves at 8:15 pm Tuesday to Friday and on Sundays, gets back at 11 pm, with a singer on board and, on some evenings, a DJ at the quay after dinner, from €89. Maxim's sur Seine, at Solférino, serves at 8 pm with a pianist-singer, from about €145–165. Dinners with music are compared on dinner cruise with live music.

The month and time that change the ranking
Our order holds for most of the year; two seasons shake it up. From November to February, night falls between 5:30 pm and 6:45 pm: every evening departure is equally dark, and comfort becomes the deciding factor. The covered, heated lower deck that all the big boats share becomes the place to be, and a 6 pm or 6:15 pm dinner turns into a genuine night cruise, shorter and cheaper.
In June and July, it is the other way around: only the Bateaux Parisiens 10:30 pm or 11 pm departures and the Paris en Scène 9:45 pm sitting run in the dark. The Vedettes de Paris drinks cruise and the Alma sightseeing cruise drop down our ranking, unless sunset is exactly what you are after. The table below gives, month by month, the time of sunset, of nightfall and of the likely first sparkle.
| Month | Sunset (1st) | Sunset (15th) | Dark (15th) | First sparkle |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| January | 17:04 | 17:21 | 17:57 | 18:00 |
| February | 17:48 | 18:11 | 18:43 | 19:00 |
| March | 18:33 | 18:55 | 19:27 | 20:00 |
| April | 20:21 | 20:42 | 21:15 | 22:00 |
| May | 21:05 | 21:25 | 22:03 | 23:00 |
| June | 21:45 | 21:56 | 22:38 | 23:00 |
| July | 21:58 | 21:50 | 22:30 | 23:00 |
| August | 21:30 | 21:07 | 21:42 | 22:00 |
| September | 20:34 | 20:04 | 20:36 | 21:00 |
| October | 19:30 | 19:02 | 19:34 | 20:00 |
| November | 17:31 | 17:11 | 17:45 | 18:00 |
| December | 16:57 | 16:54 | 17:31 | 18:00 |
Local times computed for Paris (NOAA algorithm, ±2 min). The Eiffel Tower sparkles for 5 minutes at the top of every hour from nightfall, the last time at 23:00; in summer darkness comes so late that the first sparkle waits until 22:00 or 23:00.
In our view, September is still the best month: the sun sets around 8 pm, the tower sparkles for the first time around 9 pm, and a single departure catches both. Departures in the evening light are covered on Seine sunset cruise.

What is the best night cruise in Paris?
In our view, the last Bateaux Parisiens sightseeing departures, at 10:30 pm or 11 pm depending on the season, from Port de la Bourdonnais. For a more relaxed atmosphere, the Vedettes de Paris music-and-drinks cruise at Port de Suffren.
Which Seine dinner cruise really takes place at night?
The Bateaux Parisiens 8:30 pm sitting (back at 11 pm), the Bateaux Mouches 8:30 pm sitting (back around 10:45 pm) and above all the Paris en Scène 9:45 pm sitting (back at 11:30 pm). The 6 pm sittings are only after dark in winter.
Is a Seine river cruise more expensive at night than during the day?
Not for sightseeing cruises: the same ticket is valid day or night at Bateaux Parisiens and Bateaux Mouches. Only packages with a drink or a meal cost more.
Will we see the Eiffel Tower sparkle during the cruise?
It is likely if you leave after nightfall, especially from Bourdonnais or Suffren, but no company guarantees it at a specific departure.
Do I need to book an evening cruise?
For a dinner, a Saturday or an August departure, yes. For the Bateaux Parisiens or Bateaux Mouches sightseeing cruise, the ticket is not dated: just turn up at the pier.
