The Moulin Rouge show: times, length, price

The Moulin Rouge stages its revue, "Féerie", every night in two shows, at 9 pm and 11 pm. The dinner and show starts at 7 pm. Doors open about 1h15 before each show and close 10 minutes before curtain-up, so there is no slack if you are late. The show itself runs about 1h40 to 1h45. The cabaret is at 82 boulevard de Clichy, in the 18th arrondissement, at the foot of Montmartre.

On price, the Moulin Rouge publishes no fixed rate card. What you pay depends on the date, the show and demand, and next season's offers were not yet on sale when we checked. Any figure quoted as "the Moulin Rouge price" is therefore approximate: the only number that counts is the one the booking calendar shows on the day you buy.

That is what makes combos hard to compare with two separate tickets. A one-hour Seine river cruise costs about €17 to €18 online; a dinner cruise runs from €90 to more than €150 depending on the company and the menu. The show has no reference price at all. In our view, the sensible approach is to look up the show-only price for your date on the cabaret's own website, then compare it with the combo. If the gap is small, what the combo really saves you is the logistics.

Moulin Rouge dress code and minimum age

The Moulin Rouge asks for smart casual dress. It turns away shorts, bermudas, flip-flops, sportswear and, for men, open shoes; hats come off inside the theater. The minimum age is 6, and under-18s must be with an adult, because the show includes topless scenes. With a child under 6, no Moulin Rouge combo will work.

If your evening starts with a dinner cruise, dress for the stricter of the two rules. At Bateaux Parisiens, meal cruises require proper dress, and jeans, sneakers, flip-flops, bermudas and baseball caps are not allowed: that is stricter than the Moulin Rouge, which does not mention jeans. At Bateaux Mouches, proper dress is also required in the evening, and the company refuses sportswear, flip-flops, bermudas and caps, plus sandals, shorts and tank tops according to its terms of sale; if you are turned away at the gangway, there is no refund.

For a plain sightseeing cruise there is no dress code, so the cabaret's rule is all you need to follow. Just bring a jacket for the open upper deck, and closed shoes that work for both. Each company's rules are gathered on our Seine dinner cruise page.

Moulin Rouge and Seine river cruise combos

Four packages lead the field. The most booked, on GetYourGuide, pairs the first Moulin Rouge show with champagne and a Seine river cruise. Tiqets sells the cruise and the show with transport included, a night bus tour with the show and an optional cruise, and a full evening: dinner cruise, Eiffel Tower access and the show. GetYourGuide has the same full evening, at around €370. Up on the hill, a ride on the Montmartre little train, leaving from Place Blanche opposite the Moulin Rouge, can also be combined with an optional cruise, from about €13.

Headout, for its part, has no Moulin Rouge combo in our selection, but it does sell the most booked cabaret combo in the category: the Paradis Latin show with a one-hour cruise from the Eiffel Tower. We cover it further down.

On each product page, check four things: the show time (9 pm or 11 pm), whether a drink is included, which company runs the boat and, above all, whether transport between the quay and Pigalle is included. Cancellation terms depend on the offer and are shown before you pay: read them, especially for a dated evening.

Transport included or not: from the quay to Pigalle

No pier is within a reasonable walk of the Moulin Rouge. The nearest, Port de Solférino, below the Musée d'Orsay, is about 3 km and 37 minutes away on foot; Pont de l'Alma is 45 minutes; the Eiffel Tower piers almost an hour. You will need the Métro: line 12 runs from Concorde and Solférino to Pigalle, and line 2 stops at Blanche, right outside the cabaret, coming from Charles de Gaulle–Étoile, which is about 20 minutes on foot from the Alma piers.

Work out the timing of the evening with the product page in front of you. An early dinner cruise, at 6 pm with Bateaux Mouches or 6:15 pm with Bateaux Parisiens, lasts 1h15 and is back at the quay around 7:15 pm or 7:30 pm: that leaves time to reach the 9 pm show, whose doors open around 7:45 pm. An 8:30 pm dinner, back between 10:45 pm and 11 pm, leaves very little margin for the 11 pm show without organized transport. Compare the two options on our early dinner cruise page.

When transport is included, as in the Tiqets offer "with transport", the transfer is organized: the product page gives the meeting point and the time. Without transport, the safest order is the other way around: a sightseeing cruise in the late afternoon or at dusk, then the 7 pm dinner and show or the 9 pm show. Our Seine night cruise page tells you which departure to pick for the month you are visiting.

The Paradis Latin, the alternative 20 minutes from Pont Neuf

The Paradis Latin, on rue du Cardinal-Lemoine in the 5th arrondissement, in the Latin Quarter, is about 20 minutes on foot from the Square du Vert-Galant, below the Pont Neuf. Its revue, "L'Oiseau Paradis", starts at 9:30 pm (arrival at 9 pm, or 7:30 pm for dinner guests) and runs until 11:15 pm. The cabaret is dark on Tuesdays.

Its prices are published, which makes comparison easier. On its website, the show alone costs €90 (€50 for under-26s), €100 with a glass of champagne (€50 for a child under 12), and the "Gustave Eiffel" dinner and show €180 (child €100), with menus signed by Guy Savoy; the Prestige and Napoléon packages go up to €210 and €280. There are also afternoon shows with lunch or an afternoon snack, and a family show, "Mon Premier Cabaret". The dress code is not published.

The Headout combo pairs the show with a one-hour cruise from the Eiffel Tower, at Port de la Bourdonnais, with Bateaux Parisiens. The pier is more than an hour's walk from the cabaret: take the boat in the afternoon or early evening, then the Métro or a taxi. Another option, sold by the company itself: the Bateaux Mouches dinner cruise followed by the Crazy Horse show, around €192 on their website, departing at 8:30 pm, back at 10:45 pm, then a show of about 1h30 in a theater close by. See our Bateaux Mouches review.

Moulin Rouge dinner and show price: budgeting a cabaret and Seine evening

Moulin Rouge combos range from about €190 (night bus, show, optional cruise) to more than €360 (dinner cruise, Eiffel Tower and show). With the Paradis Latin, the show plus a one-hour cruise comes to around €100, against about €108 for the two official tickets bought separately (€90 + €18).

For dinner on the water followed by a cabaret, there are three budgets. The tightest: a sightseeing cruise and the show alone, with a glass of champagne. The most common: a 6 pm or 6:15 pm dinner cruise, from €90 to €99 depending on the company, then the 9 pm show. The most complete: an all-inclusive combo with transport, which costs more but removes the dash between the quay and Pigalle. To bring the dinner bill down, see budget Seine dinner cruise; for music on board, dinner cruise with live music.

The dinner-cruise companies and their piers are listed below. Other monument and boat pairings, by day, are on museum + cruise combos and Eiffel Tower + Seine cruise.
