At Scenic, a luxury cruise brand, the Seine product is called "Normandy & Gems of the Seine". None of our partner platforms sells multi-day river cruises, so we describe the itinerary, then point you to what we do sell: one-hour cruises in Paris and day trips in Normandy. To compare with the other lines, our Paris to Normandy river cruises page sets the main offers side by side.

Scenic Gem, a ship built to reach Honfleur

The Scenic Gem was custom-built for this river. The line describes it as "designed for only up to 124 guests" (other Scenic pages say 122), which makes it one of the smallest ships on the Paris to Normandy route. Its size lets it do what most rivals don't: sail to the end of the navigable Seine and into the harbor at Honfleur, instead of stopping at Rouen or mooring in Le Havre.

On board, every cabin is a suite. The entry category sits on the lower Jewel Deck, with a fixed picture window and about 160 to 170 sq ft. Above come the Balcony Suites, Deluxe Balcony, Royal Balcony and the Royal One-Bedroom Suite. Every suite has a butler, a Scenic signature. One detail the line spells out in its own FAQ: the Gem has no Sun Lounge, the forward panoramic lounge found on its other ships.

In our view, the real luxury of the Gem is its scale: shorter waits at the gangway and smaller excursion groups than on ships of 160 guests and more.

Scenic Seine itinerary day by day: Rouen, Honfleur and back via Giverny

The trip is a round trip from Paris, and, according to Scenic, the only 11-day cruise on this stretch of river. The way down is quick; the way back takes its time:

  1. Parisembark

  2. Les AndelysChâteau Gaillard, Richard the Lionheart's fortress

  3. Rouentwo days: cathedral, Gros-Horloge, Joan of Arc's quarter

  4. Honfleurtwo nights alongside: the old harbor, the Normandy coast, the D-Day beaches

  5. Honfleur > Caudebec-en-Cauxsailing back upriver

  6. Vernon > La Roche-GuyonGiverny and the private concert at the château

  7. Conflans > Parislast day on the river

  8. Paristwo days in the capital, then disembark

Two things stand out. First, the two nights in Honfleur: you sleep in the harbor, while guests on ships moored in Le Havre come in by coach. Second, the two days in Paris at the end, handy if you've flown a long way and don't want to book a hotel. For the geography of the Normandy ports and what to do there without a cruise, see our Rouen and Honfleur guide.

What's included: Scenic's all-inclusive formula

Scenic sells this cruise as "truly all-inclusive" and lists 21 inclusions. The ones stated in black and white on the itinerary page: a full day at the D-Day beaches, a visit to Monet's house in Giverny, 28 activities to choose from (the "Freechoice" program), a Paris tour, a private classical concert at Château de La Roche-Guyon and a visit to the Somme battlefields.

Drinks, gratuities, Wi-Fi and e-bikes are included across the Scenic fleet, according to specialist travel agents, but the itinerary page doesn't itemize them. Check them in the quote before you sign.

What remains on you: getting to Paris, the hotel before or after, and extensions. Scenic offers longer combinations, with Paris and London (sixteen days), with the French Riviera or with the South of France.

Scenic Seine cruise price: from €4,695, and why the figure moves

On Scenic's European site, the lowest fare shown when we last checked was €4,695 per person, double occupancy, for an August departure in category E (Jewel Deck), with an early-booking saving on a full fare of €5,995. The dearest departure of the season reached €7,730. Full fares for the following season range from €5,990 to €6,470. The US site doesn't publish fares online.

Per night, that comes to roughly €470 to €770 per person, which puts Scenic at the top of the market alongside Tauck and Uniworld. Keep three caveats in mind: this is a "from" price recorded on a given day, it depends on the departure and the suite, and promotions change without notice. Only the line's quote is binding.

Boarding in Paris: a pier confirmed in your documents

Scenic doesn't fix a Paris pier in advance on its itinerary page, and that is normal: the big lines dock mostly in the 15th arrondissement, at Port de Grenelle or Port de Javel Bas, and the berth changes with availability. The exact pier is in your travel documents, sent before departure.

If you arrive the day before, make use of it: Bateaux Parisiens leaves from Port de la Bourdonnais (pontoon 3), at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, and Vedettes de Paris from Port de Suffren, just downstream of Pont d'Iéna. Our Seine cruise piers page gives the metro and RER access for each. A one-hour Seine cruise on the evening you arrive is, in our view, the best way to see central Paris from the water before you board.

D-Day beaches and Giverny: what you will actually see

The D-Day day is included and leaves from Honfleur, further west than Rouen, where the routes that turn back earlier start from. Still, expect a long day on the coach. Scenic adds the Somme battlefields, which are missing from the other itineraries we compared.

For Giverny, the port is Vernon, on day 8. Monet's house and gardens open roughly from April 1 to November 1; most of the Gem departures we have seen, from mid-April to late October, fall inside that window, but some seasons start in late March or run into November: on those departures, don't count on the gardens. The same day, La Roche-Guyon hosts the private concert at the château, an exclusive that Scenic highlights in its list of inclusions.

Our verdict on the Gem

Pros

  • The only 11-day trip: the most relaxed pace on the market
  • Two nights moored in Honfleur, a short walk from the old harbor
  • A ship for 124 guests at most, a butler for every suite
  • D-Day, Giverny, the Somme and a private concert included

Cons

  • The highest price per night, with Tauck and Uniworld
  • No Sun Lounge on the Gem, unlike Scenic's other ships
  • Drinks and gratuities included but not itemized on the itinerary page
  • A mostly English-speaking clientele: in our view, little French spoken on board

No ten-night cruise? The Seine and Normandy as day trips

Ten nights in a suite don't fit every budget. Yet the strongest parts of the trip can be done as excursions from Paris. Giverny is 45 minutes to an hour by train from Saint-Lazare to Vernon-Giverny, plus a shuttle (about €10 round trip); entry to the gardens is around €13. In Honfleur, a 90-minute boat trip out under the Pont de Normandie costs around €20. Here are the Normandy day trips we can book:

And in Paris itself, you can see the Seine in an hour for under €20: departures at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, at Pont de l'Alma or at Pont Neuf. For a longer evening, see the Seine dinner cruise.

If you are still weighing the lines, our reviews of Emerald Cruises, the cheaper sister brand from the same group, and of Tauck, the other luxury option, will help you decide.
